The garden is bordered by an abundance of various trees ranging from oaks, horse chestnut, spindles, hollies, beeches and copper beeches, specimen conifers and a row of limes. These attract all kinds of birds - we have buzzards and owls; surely it is one of the few places on earth where owls hoot during the day as well as at night?
Housemartins and swallows return to us each year. We have seen wagtails, goldcrests and willow-warblers. Robins are almost tame and are unusually friendly with the many blackbirds. The orchard has plum, pear and apple trees and is bordered by conifers. Ferns adorn the banks of the stream and lane, as well as primroses and orchids in the spring together with many other wild flowers.
