Things to do and see in Devon.

Kiwi Cottage set in Ruby Country is 3 miles from Hatherleigh, a thriving market town with many cottage industries and cultural activities. Our proximity to Dartmoor offers some of the finest walks in Devon as well as a wealth of activities ranging from cycling, riding, fishing and, for the more adventurous abseiling and climbing pursuits. Guides who know Dartmoor well can accompany any visitors who would like to spend wonderful days on the Moor.

Okehampton, the Gateway to Dartmoor, is 5-miles south and is a historic bustling town with the largest castle in Devon. Being situated as we are in the centre of the county means that the rugged north coast and the gentle south are equidistant - an hour's drive away. Cornwall is close with Bude and its good surfing beaches, and Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn is not far away. Exeter and Plymouth are close - each with its own list of attractions - the former as a cathedral and university city and the latter with its nautical connections from Sir Francis Drake to Sir Francis Chichester - with the courageous and dedicated Pilgrim Fathers appearing in-between! There are many excellent country pubs, each with its own distinctive character and all fiercely determined to maintain their reputations. The Royal Horticultural Society's Garden at Rosemoor, with its own kiwi fruit, is literally "just up the road". This garden was given to the RHS by a lady in her seventies who went to New Zealand to marry a farmer. A little further north is the great River Torridge from where Tarka the Otter started her Trail.

All these lovely places are within easy reach should you wish to explore, having soaked-up the atmosphere of peace and tranquility we have here - every taste can be catered for.
